Imagined communities: Understanding nationalism

10:00am Saturday 1 September

About this session

The idea of the nation is normalised within capitalist society, when in fact the concept is relatively new, having emerged with the developing capitalist mode of production. This session will explore how the idea of the nation state emerged in its modern context, the contradictory relationship between nationalism and the material realities of social relations, and how socialists have theorised how to move beyond nations and nationalism.
