About this session

A wave of teachers’ and school staff strikes is sweeping the US, putting working class struggle back on the agenda and, in many states, winning significant gains. The strikes raise many issues, including the nature of the modern working class and enduring power of the strike, the necessity of  rank-and-file organising, and the particular position of schools in our society.

Dana Blanchard is a member of the International Socialist Organisation and currently works for Haymarket Books in Chicago. She was a public school teacher for fifteen years in California and has written extensively about the fight for public education, most recently about the wave of teachers’ strike which began in West Virginia.
