Democratic socialism: An easier method of change?

12:00pm Saturday 24 August

About this session

The idea of democratic socialism has made a resurgence since Bernie Sanders inspired millions with his talk of a political revolution. Yet is it really possible to achieve socialism through parliamentary means?

History suggests that the ruling class will not allow their privilege and wealth to be abolished without a fight. The experience of governments led by reformers such as Salvador Allende and Gough Whitlam further demonstrate that the most powerful institutions of the state are totally pro-bourgeois and therefore cannot be used as a weapon of social change.
