Left Strategy: Perspectives for revolution in the West

12:00pm Saturday 24 August

About this session

Revolution is possible: we have seen revolutions almost every country on the planet in almost every decade of modern history. But many doubt the applicability of a revolutionary strategy to modern Western countries, where stable democratic governments reign and a modicum of political freedom exists. The rise of a new left in the past few years, dedicated to working within the system, within the existing parties (Democrats, UK Labour), and to creating a more humane capitalism, has made these debates more urgent. This important session will draw on the works of Lenin and others, as well as recent experiences of the workers’ movements in advanced capitalist countries, to argue for a revolutionary perspective and against the reformist visions of gradual parliamentary change.
