Are the robots coming for our jobs? Marxists argue that the working class has a potential social power to shut down production and stop the system. But are workers today being displaced by technology and is this shifting the balance of power. From the luddites to the gig economy, new technology has been implemented by capitalists in the pursuit of profit at the expense of workers. Does this spell the end of working class power? Alternatively, could it be the beginning of a technocratic utopia?
This session will explore the question of automation and whether new technology like AI and robotics is undermining the revolutionary potential of workers.
