Nina Simone: Singin' about a revolution

4:30pm Saturday 3 September

About this session

Nina Simone was a singer, civil rights activist and radical. Her music was a cry of defiance against the racism and inequality of American capitalism during the civil rights and Black Power movements. Her political circle included Black radicals and activist artists like James Baldwin, Stokely Carmichael, and Langston Hughes – leading thinkers and cultural voices of the radicalisation of the 60s and 70s. This session will explore the music and political life of Nina Simone.
