Marxism 101: The 1917 Russian Revolution

2:30pm Saturday 3 September

About this session

Trotsky, in his History of the Russian Revolution, demanded that we study this “series of collective historic dramas which lifted hundreds of millions of human beings out of nonexistence, transforming the character of nations and intruding forever into the life of all mankind.

0ver 100 years since its occurrence, the Russian Revolution still intrudes. The truth of it is hotly debated- was it the work of a conspiratorial clique to obtain power, or a democratic revolt of the downtrodden to build a new social system? This session will put forward the case for the latter and draw out the lessons we can learn today in fighting for the future of humankind.
