Marxism 101: Is capitalism to blame for racism?

12:00pm Saturday 3 September

About this session

Racism is systemic today, from Black deaths in police custody to the deportation of refugees.  Socialists argue that racism is baked into capitalism, helping to disposess, divide and rule, hyper exploit sections of the working class and justify imperialist wars. While liberal identity politics tells us that the best we can hope for is greater cultural representation and diversity in the ruling class, socialists argue that liberation is possible through revolution.

Can working class revolution liberate the racially oppressed? What is the connection between racism and exploitation? This session will explore the origins and ongoing function of racism under capitalism.
