The ALP in government: was there ever a Labor 'golden age'?

2:30pm Saturday 19 August

About this session

Today the Labor party hardly inspires left-wing people with a vision of social change — Albanese leads a neoliberal party of balanced budgets and multi-billion dollar nuclear submarines. But was there ever a golden era of socialist reform when Labor ruled on behalf of workers?

What’s the relationship between the ALP and the working class? Was the party ever motivated by loftier goals than capitalist profitability and could the golden age ever return? This session will explore the Marxist critique of the Australian Labor Party.
