Workers versus Bosses: How does social class shape our world?

12:00pm Saturday 17 August

About this session

The world of work conditions almost every aspect of life for ordinary people. Most adults spend half their waking hours at work. The pay we get heavily influences what we can do in our spare time, what food we can eat, where we live. On the flip side, the choices that our bosses make, where and when and in what industries they invest, can bring them huge profits, and have dramatic impacts on our lives. They can lead to climate change, to unemployment and recessions, and decide whether new mines or new hospitals are built. This session will delve into why Marxists see class — the structure of how wealth, resources and machinery are controlled — as a fundamental starting point for understanding the world.
