Gavin Stanbrook

Indigenous Socialist

Gavin Stanbrook is an Aboriginal Activist based in Sydney and a member of Socialist Alternative. He is from Gumbaynggirr country from the Coffs Coast. Gavin is currently active in the activist collective FIRE in Sydney and, in 2018, was an organiser of the 30,000 strong Invasion Day march in Sydney and the “Stop Black deaths in custody march” in May. Gavin joined Socialist Alternative in 2015 after becoming politically active in protests for Aboriginal rights and justice, particularly the campaign to save “the Block”, one of the last remaining urban inner-city Aboriginal Communities facing gentrification. He is an activist in the National Tertiary Education Union and has been involved in the fight against government funding cuts and opposing the offshore refugee dentation centres on Manus Island and Nauru.
