As part of the radical workers movements in the 1960’s and 70’s, Indigenous and non-Indigenous unionsts led a series of historic campaigns against racism. From the Gurindji Strike in the Northern Territory, to the Wee Waa Cotton Strike in rural New South Wales, campaigns for Indigenous rights stretched from coast to coast. The power of the unionised working class combined with struggles for land rights and Black Power to build a powerful movement against racism.
This session will explore the often hidden history of how Indigenous activists and the organised working class fought for Aboriginal rights.
