Resisting Trumps America: War, Racism and Authoritarianism

2:30pm Saturday 5 September

About this session

Donald Trump has bombed more nations than any other world leader since WWII. From launching a full-scale war on Iran which will likely murder many thousands, to kidnapping the Venezuelan president, supporting Israel’s genocide in Gaza, bombing boats in the Caribbean and threatening the forced takeover of Greenland, this is naked US imperialism in force across the globe.

Meanwhile at home, Trump has turned ICE into a full-fledged gestapo force. ICE has terrorised migrant communities, snatching people off the streets, from their workplaces and from their schools. All of this is justified through extreme nationalist rhetoric.

But there is hope: millions of people have protested and resisted Trump’s attacks. From the Minneapolis general strike to the repeated mass “No Kings” rallies, American workers, migrants and young people are refusing to be cowed. This session will explain how Trump’s attacks are connected to the needs of American capitalism, and what sort of movement do we need to oppose them.
