This session is also taking place at 10AM in Sydney & Melbourne
Capitalism is a system built on the exploitation of workers and the environment. 100 corporate entities are responsible for 71% of carbon emissions. The natural world is treated as an endlessly exploitable source of commodities rather than the basis for human society. Marx argued that capitalism was incapable of existing in a sustainable relationship with nature because it’s a system built on capital accumulation and competition. This session will look at the dynamics of capitalism, from energy to transport and agriculture to look at capitalism’s role in the climate crisis and the role of class struggle and anti-capitalist politics in combating it.
