Why anti-imperialism doesn't mean support for dictators

10:00am Sunday 6 September

About this session

There has long been a strong tradition of Marxists organising against imperialism and war. Yet today, anti-imperialism has been reduced to support for dictatorships that are hostile to the United States and the West. The logic of “the enemy of my enemy is my friend” appears like common sense on the left. How has this situation come about and what is wrong with this?

This session will explain how Stalinism distorted the Marxist analysis of imperialism and how to fight it. It will also look at how a commitment to working class democracy and liberation is the only true basis for standing against war and empire.
